Boise State leads the nation in scoring with an average of 44.2 points per game. T.C.U. leads the nation in total defense, yielding 223.3 yards per game.

The biggest difference since the teams met last year in the Poinsettia Bowl, a 17-16 T.C.U. victory, is the evolution of T.C.U.’s offense. The Horned Frogs, behind an improved quarterback in Andy Dalton, have gone from No. 27 in scoring in 2008 (33.6) to No. 4 this year (40.7).

“That’s the key matchup right there, without question,” Boise State Coach Chris Petersen said. “Our defense is going to have to slow those guys down somewhat. If T.C.U. scores 40, that’s not going to be good.” PETE THAMEL
